Time-of-Day Rates

Timing is Everything!

Did you know that you may be able to save money if you use energy during certain times of the day?

If you use 65% or more of your monthly electricity during off-peak hours (late in the evening, overnight and all weekend) and use at least 750 kilowatt hours per month, Plymouth Utilities optional Time-of-Day service may be right for you.

How Time-of-Day Rates Work

Plymouth Utilities can offer you lower electric rates during off-peak hours because our energy costs are typically lower, and we can supply power to all of our customers more effectively than during the high demand, on-peak hours. Time-of-Day rates reward customers with a discount for helping to spread the demand for electricity more evenly over each 24 hour period. Conversely, Time-of-Day customers will pay a higher rate during on-peak hours, so it is critical that you use the majority of your energy during the off-peak hours in order to benefit from the off-peak discount.

Time-of-Day Periods and Rates

Off-Peak hours are weekday hours not included in the On-Peak time periods listed below, plus Saturdays, Sundays and major holidays. Energy used by residential customers during off-peak hours will be billed at $0.0412 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

The following On-Peak time periods are available, so Time-of-Day customers may choose a time frame that best suits their daily schedule:

  • 7am – 7pm, Monday – Friday
  • 8am – 8pm, Monday – Friday
  • 9am – 9pm, Monday – Friday
Residential customers will be billed at $.1395 per kWh for energy used during on peak hours.

Please note: Regular residential rate is $0.0803 per kWh.

How to Get Started There is no cost to sign up for the optional Time-of-Day service. We will need to replace your current electric meter with a special time-of-use meter. Once you sign up for Time-of-Day service, a one year commitment is required. For this reason, we advise that you start with a three month trial period. We will monitor your progress and make a recommendation at the end of that time. During the trial period, you will continue to be billed at the regular rate.

If you think Time-of-Day service may be right for you, contact us at 920-893-1471 or stop in our office at 12 South Milwaukee Street.
